Agenda

Planning post-death provision by those who are not married to or in a civil partnership with their significant other presents particular issues and so also particular traps for the unwary: in many ways, inheritance law has not kept up with the decreasing importance many attach to the legal formality of their union, and the myth of the ‘common law’ spouse appears stubbornly persistent.

This talk considers the special considerations that apply when advising those in committed but informal relationships in respect of their will and the other ways in which their property may devolve after their death so as to maximise the prospects of giving effect to their wishes.
