Dealing with trespassers

Webinar - Streamed 11th June12.30 - 1.30pm

SRA, A, B

________________________

Presented by Marc Glover & Katie Gray, Tanfield Chambers

This talk will address the particular problems caused by “professional” protesters and squatters, and the very recent Covid-19 related case of University College NHS Trust v MB [2020] EWHC 882 (QB) and the amendment to Practice Direction 51Z. How can landowners recover possession in the face of the human right to protest and of assembly? Can a land owner obtain an injunction? What practical steps can a landowner take to recover possession as quickly as possible, and how can those acting for landowners maximise the prospects of success of the possession claim? The answers to these questions will be discussed by Marc Glover and Katie Gray in detail during this talk.

Experience: Marc was instructed by the claimant in the high profile case of Europa Oil and Gas Ltd v Persons Unknown which involved an illegal encampment on a fracking site in the Surrey Hills, and most recently acted for the claimant in the Paddington Green Police Station protest occupation that was widely reported in the national press. Katie regularly appears in the High Court and County Court in trespassers cases, and has particular expertise in cases involving the illegal tipping of waste.”
